Solar Afric provides design, installation, maintenance, and repair of solar photovoltaic power systems to un-electrified homes in the communities   The systems include solar modules (to convert energy into electrical current), batteries (to receive and store electrical current), a converter (to convert DC energy captured from the solar modules to AC energy), a charge controller (to regulate the solar current into the battery) and use loads (anything that runs on electricity, such as lights). In addition houses may also need to be retrofitted with electrical wiring and outlets.

Solar is extremely scalable, as there are systems available from less than 1 watt to several megawatts. This makes it possible to initialize the electrification of a home or village with minimal initial capital. This also allows for dynamic and incremental scaling as load demands increase.  If a single panel in a multi panel solar array is damaged, the rest of the system continues functioning unimpeded.

Because solar projects produce power where it is used, it provides a safe, reliable and cost effective solution. Because transmission equipment is avoided, these systems are more secure, and less vulnerable to attack. This can be an important feature in regions prone to conflict, as Africa is. Solar power systems are simple to set up, easy to operate, easy to repair, and durable. Solar resource is abundant enough to provide all of the electrical energy requirements of rural populations, and this can be done in remote and otherwise fragmented low density areas that are impractical to address using conventional grid based systems.
